Frames

We own our own frame plant, so we control the quality from start to finish. Our frames are solid hardwoods. All stress joints are double dowelled and corner blocked.

Seat Suspension

We use an eight gauge-sinuous wire spring with a unique bend at the ends which creates a crown effect that will not bottom out. Through the use of a computerized clipping system, the clips are evenly spread for a uniform seat. An oil-tempered tie wire is attached to the springs unifying the deck and allowing it to function as a total unit. Over the spring, we apply a non-woven material to act as a barrier and as an insulating material. On top of the non-woven material, we apply a densified fiber pad and a quality sateen decking material. On certain asymmetrical shaped sectional styles, we use 3” high quality strap webbing. The webbing is interwoven in two directions to provide a unified seat platform.

Cushions

We use 1.8 density foam as a standard. All cushions have a 1.8oz densified fiber that is bonded to the top, front and bottom of the foam. Other cushion options available are a HR foam, “Comfort Down,” “Spring Down” and “Deluxe.” The “Comfort Down” cushion consists of 1.8 density foam inserted into a down proof ticking cover that has a down, feather and fiber mix blown into sewn channels in the cover. The “Deluxe” cushion is an HR foam core double wrapped with super soft fiber and encased in a down proof cotton ticking. It is designed to give the look and feel of feather down but at a lower price. It is a relaxed, high crown cushion. The HR cushion is a superior grade, “high resilency” type foam. It will sit slightly firmer and maintain its support for a longer period of time. Our premium option spring down-blend cushion uses a combination of high carbon steel core springs and HR foam encased in a channeled ticking. The ride is buoyant and wonderfully comfortable, and will wrinkle and soften with use.

Standard: Our standard cushion is a high quality 1.8 density polyurethane foam cushion wrapped in a 1.25-2.0 oz. Layer if sift ore-densifed polyester fiber.

HR (high resiliency)/extra-life: We offer a higher quality grade of foam that is called HR foam. HR foam has a greater support factor and durability characteristics. It is often recommended for high use applications and will maintain its shape and support for a longer period of time than the standard 1.8 density foam. It will feel slightly firmer than our standard cushion. It also comes with a lifetime warranty.

Deluxe: Deluxe is a relaxed, higher crown, softer looking and feeling cushion. It is designed to give a down-like look and feel without using feathers and down. It is a HR quality foam core that is double wrapped with a super soft polyester fiber. It is then encased in a poly/cotton Down proof ticking.

Comfort-Down: This is also a relaxed, higher crown, softer cushion with the plush features of feathers and down. The cushion will sit slightly softer than any of the other options. Over time there may be relaxed comfort wrinkles to the cushion. This is considered part of the look and is not considered a quality problem by Carter. IT is a better quality foam core encased in a poly/cotton, Down-proof ticking. The ticking has a blend of feathers, fiber, and down blown into sewn channels to create a soft top and bottom to the cushion. When Comfort-Down is selected the loose back cushions are also encased in a poly/cotton Down proof ticking. The backs are still filled with the standard polyester fiber fill.

Spring Down: A Marshall coil begins with the use of a very high carbon content wire. This wire comes in various gauges or thickness. Each coil is individually pressurized to establish the proper feel desired in the finished cushion. Once this pressure is set in the coil, it remains ther forever. Never losing the original feel. Each coil is also encased or held captive in an individual pocket, which eliminates it’s neighbor and allowing it to work independently as it rides up and down.

Polyurethane foam is cut to form the shape of the cushion with a cavity into which individually pocketed Marshall coils are placed. The foam acting only as an insulating agent and to keep the coils “shaped” to the cover size.

Then comes a blanket of thousands of strands of polyester fiber, feathers, and down in a luxurious bag, lending the look and feel that only down can give.

Deluxe and Comfort-Down seat cushions are not available on ottomans and tight seats.
